Senior Risk Analyst

Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. currently seeks a candidate for the position of Senior Risk Analyst for our Yamaha Motor Finance Canada Ltd. (YMFCA).

Summary of Responsibilities:

Yamaha Motor Finance Canada is the newly established captive finance division of Yamaha Motor Canada, which is focused on providing financial solutions to Yamaha dealers and customers through its Retail and Wholesale finance programs.

The purpose of this role is to develop and enhance credit risk strategy and policy for Yamaha Motor Finance Canada (YMFCA).

Leveraging a strong analytics background as well as internal and external data sources, the Senior Risk Analyst will work with YMFCA senior management to implement strategy and policy improvements for the retail and wholesale lending products as well as the extended warranty product. The Senior Risk Analyst will also be responsible for portfolio risk by executing a effective monitoring and enforcement of existing policies; providing loss forecasting and provisioning models, including running the models for budget and planning initiatives and periodically updating and enhancing the forecast methodology.

The Senior Risk Analyst will also be expected to provide ad-hoc analysis and risk review of new product initiatives, strategies that target new customer segments, or external data/scores that could be used to enhance existing decisioning.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse the automated credit risk strategy to improve decision making effectiveness and increase automation. Review and improve the risk segmentation strategy to ensure loans are being approved at the right 'price-to-risk'.
  • Assist with periodic reviews of consumer and commercial lending policies. Develop processes and reporting to ensure compliance with lending guidelines and identify any overrides/exceptions. Support external partners during any audit of YMFCA activities.
  • Provision and Loss Forecasting.
  • Risk review and ad-hoc analysis to support new initiatives.
  • Risk Reporting
  • Other ad-hoc analysis as required

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; B.Math, B.Sc or B.Arts
  • Analysis, Reporting, Data Manipulation / Model Building, Statistical Modelling or Forecasting ideally in a retail lending environment, 3-5 years of experience

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience building credit risk strategy and reporting in a retail lending environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of automotive credit products, particularly vehicle loans/leases would be an asset.
  • Experience with loss forecasting models (roll rate, vintage/static pool, score based, etc).
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, SQL and VBA.
  • Knowledge of statistical programs, preferably SAS.
  • Ability to manage time and work independently.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (written and verbal) technical/analytical information and ideas with strong attention to detail.
  • Commercial lending experience would be an asset.
  • Experience with pricing and analysis insurance/warranty products would be an asset.
  • Policy/Audit experience would be an asset.
  • Enthusiasm for of recreational vehicles (powersport and marine) is welcomed and encouraged.
