Senior Analyst

Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. currently seeks a candidate for the position of Senior Analyst for our Yamaha Motor Finance Canada (YMFCA).

Background to Yamaha Motor Finance Canada

Yamaha Motor Finance Canada ("YMFCA") is the recently established full service captive finance business for Yamaha Motor Canada. YMFCA provides wholesale financing solutions to Yamaha dealers in Canada and retail financing solutions to customers purchasing Yamaha products, including loans and insurance offerings. Yamaha Motor Canada distributes Yamaha product nationwide, has been in operation since 1973 and is the only recreational and leisure business that offers a product for all seasons. Specifically, Yamaha Motor Canada sells Motorcycles, Snowmobiles, ATVs, Side by Sides, Outboard Motors Waverunners, Sport Boats as well as small engine power products like Generators and Snow Blowers.

Summary of Responsibilities:

This position will help lead the process of establishing the data management infrastructure for YMFCA, including establishing data flows to and from key vendors and the data warehouse. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for helping lead the establishment of the reporting protocols to ensure management and the executive team are receiving timely and accurate information to make key decisions necessary to drive the success of the business. The successful candidate will manage and maintain multiple sources of data to create a data model that will fuel the reporting and analytics function.

Providing analysis and insight in order to drive sustainable growth for the loan portfolio as well as operational effectiveness for Yamaha Motor Finance Canada (YMFCA) as a whole are additional expectations of the role. At YMFCA, analytics plays a key role across all functional areas and affects all phases of the customer lifecycle from lead generation, application processing, credit decisioning, account management, collections and customer retention. The successful candidate will be expected to make contributions to credit and operating strategy over time.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establish, integrate and maintain all internal and external sources of data into the YMFCA data model so it can be easily leveraged into reporting and analytics across all functional areas.
  • Manage reporting for distribution to executive, credit, sales and operations. Develop new reporting as required and provide ad-hoc analysis into portfolio trends. Participate in risk oversight activities/meetings, provide in-depth insight into drivers behind key trends.
  • Monitor and analyse the automated credit risk strategy to improve decision making effectiveness and increase automation. Review and improve the risk segmentation strategy to ensure loans are being approved at the right 'price-to-risk'.
  • Manage and execute the design, implementation and post-campaign analysis for new marketing and sales initiatives, for example: new program pricing, promotional campaigns, and customer retention offers.
  • Assist with periodic reviews of consumer and commercial lending policies. Develop processes and reporting to ensure compliance with lending guidelines and identify any overrides/exceptions. Support external partners during any audit of YMFCA activities.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • B.Math, B.Sc or B.Arts, Mathematics, Business, Statistics, Economics, Financial Engineering or a related quantitative discipline
  • Analysis, Reporting, Data Manipulation / Model Building, Statistical Modelling or Forecasting ideally in a retail lending environment, 3 - 5 years

Skills and Abilities

  • Analytical skills demonstrated by leveraging data to drive insights and value to an organization.
  • Experience with Excel, Powerpoint, SQL and VBA.
  • Knowledge of statistical programs, preferably SAS.
  • Ability to manage time and work independently.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (written and verbal) technical/analytical information and ideas with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and understanding of retail credit products, particularly vehicle loans/leases would be an asset.
  • Commercial lending experience would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of recreational vehicles (powersport and marine) would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse tools and data visualization products would be an asset.
