We know that you are excited, and have a number of important questions. Before you sign up, let’s walk through the most common ones:
How old do you need to be?
The course is designed for students 6-12 years of age. Considering the size of the TTR50E and TT-R90, a maximum of approximately 12 years of age is set for a participant. The YRA instructor will solely determine motorcycle selection (TTR50E or TT-R90) based on participant competence and size.
How big do you need to be?
Your youngster on either the TTR50E or TT-R90 should be comfortable sitting on the seat, with feet flat on the ground. Should you question your son or daughters riding abilities, ask yourself if your child has mastered a two-wheel bicycle (without training assistance wheels). Participants should be able to ride under their own guidance while pedaling under power and coming to sudden stops.
Is my Son or Daughter emotionally ready?
Mom and Dad, this is a question that only a parent can answer and you must consider before your child gets too excited! While this might be something they are extremely enthusiastic to take part in, you must determine if your child has the proper emotional maturity to understand what they are undertaking. In select cases some youngsters may not be comfortable, either physically or emotionally, to consider this new activity. No child should be forced to participate if they are not fully aware of the contents and expectations of the riding course.
Do I need my Parents or a Legal Guardian present?
YES. We require that a parent or legal guardian be present for introduction, waiver sign in, participation and completion of all YRA courses. Legal guardians must present legal documentation showing their status. A note from a parent is not acceptable.
How fast will be they going during their ride?
Depending on the model and throttle setting, (the throttles have been restricted) the speed will range between 5 and 20 kph, and will be adjusted by the instructor to reflect the student's ability.
How big is the YRA Track?
It is a enclosed area, with flexible fencing and protective hay bales. The course is approximately 30 meters by 50 meters (subject to change depending on venue). Each rider will be riding in a general oval layout with instructors placed in specific areas for the best vantage point and coaching.
What do I need to bring?
A positive attitude with your Mother and Father to cheer you on! Along with this enthusiasm for a new learning experience, we recommend:
- Long sleeve shirt
- Full pants
- Socks and running shoes
Do I need to bring protective gear?
Leave that to us, Yamaha will be supplying a full youth sized helmet, goggles, gloves, jersey, pants and boots to protect you from the elements.
Where are you located at the racetrack?
Directions will be available at the admission gate, and we will have our “Yamaha Flags” situated at our ride site.
What do I need to bring for documentation to ride?
Each participant will be required to sign a waiver that they understand the risks and accept the consequences of their actions. As all the participants are considered a minor under Canadian law, a parent or legal guardian must be present, and witness the waiver form at the time of riding in the presence of the YRA instructors.
What happens if it rains?
Our goal isto ride in most conditions, but we reserve the right, if severe weather conditions are apparent, to suspend or stop the rides immediately in the interest of safety.
What time is my Team Blue ride?
We encourage you to find the YRA location when you arrive at the racetrack and consider the size of the group waiting to ride. Traditionally the wait can be up to one hour on very busy times, (Sunday, between 10am and 4pm). We ask you to be patient, watch how sign-up works, check sizing of protective gear, listen to the instructors, and watch the races.
Will we be racing?
No. there will be no racing among the participants of the Yamaha Riding Academy. We want your first ride to take place in a safe & educational environment. Leave the racing to the professionals.
Can I ride with my friends together?
The nature of the demo rides requires that we be very flexible. Level I is 1st come, 1st served.
Can we ride 2-Up?
Sorry, that is a big no-no. Both of the YRA courses are designed to help you learn and properly accomplish the basics of off road riding. Both the models TTR50E and TT-R90 are designed to be ridden by one rider.
Can I go more than once?
We want everyone to have fun and learn safely. From past experience, expect quite a large group of participants to ride in this unique opportunity on the same day. We encourage you to complete your first ride safely and then leave time open for the next group to enjoy the great experience of Yamaha Riding Academy.
NOTE: ONLY PARENTS OR LEGAL GUARDIANS MAY SIGN THE WAIVER IN THE PRESENCE OF THE INSTRUCTOR FOR EACH PARTICIPANT. LEGAL GUARDIANS MUST PRESENT LEGAL DOCUMENTATION SHOWING THEIR STATUS. A NOTE FROM A PARENT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. WITHOUT THIS SIGNATURE, THE CHILD MAY NOT RIDE.
