Carburized Connecting Rods

Carburization is a process that toughens the connecting rod by impregnating the rod surface layer with carbon, which resists cracking. Carburizing allows Yamaha’s engineers to reduce the cross section of the connecting rods, thereby reducing their weight, while still maintaining their strength. The result is a rod that is lighter with less reciprocating mass for faster engine response.
