Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. Privacy Policy


In accordance with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA") and applicable provincial privacy legislation, Yamaha Motor Canada Ltd. ("Yamaha") has in place this Privacy Policy.

Types of Personal Information Collected
The following is the personal information that may be collected online or offline by Yamaha:
  • Name
  • Age (specify under or over 13 years of age)
  • Address
  • Postal code
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address
  • Product purchased
  • Products of interest
  • Model name, year and VIN#
  • Selling dealer
  • Purchase date
Methods of Personal Information Collection
Personal information about a customer is collected by the Yamaha dealer when the product is sold. The information is then submitted to Yamaha as part of the registration procedure. Personal information may also be collected when consumers contact and/or request information from Yamaha. When personal information is collected that may be used for distribution of marketing materials Yamaha will provide the consumer the opportunity to refuse to have personal information used and disclosed in this manner. Personal information is also collected when a visitor to our Web site registers to become a member of My Yamaha.

Uses for Personal Information Collected
When Yamaha products are regulated as motor vehicles, the requirement to maintain registration files containing personal information is mandated by Transport Canada to ensure customers can be contacted in the event of a safety recall procedure. Yamaha may use the information for recall purposes. Yamaha also maintains information about purchasers of other products to ensure they can be contacted for the same reason. Customer safety is paramount to Yamaha. Personal information may also be used so that marketing materials can be supplied via ground mail or e-mail to keep consumers aware of the latest introductions and news on Yamaha products and services.

E-mail addresses provided by a Web site user to submit a resume will only be used by Yamaha to contact the applicant as required to support the interview/hiring process.

Retention of Personal Information
Personal information collected for customer safety purposes is retained indefinitely at the Yamaha head office. Other information will be destroyed when it is no longer useful to Yamaha for the purposes for which it is collected. All personal information is retained on a secure system with appropriate password and firewall protection.

Disclosure
Yamaha may disclose customer's personal information to third parties for the distribution of related marketing materials unless otherwise stated.

The right to review Personal Information
Everyone has the right at any time to review and correct the personal information about them held by Yamaha. The personal information will only be provided in writing. When the information is requested from a customer who owns a Yamaha product it will only be sent to the address on file for that customer. Responses to all requests will be made within 30 days of receipt of request.

Personal information collected to complete My Yamaha registration can be reviewed and updated at any time by logging into your My Yamaha account and clicking on the "Update My Account" link. To stop receiving e-mails or other marketing correspondence, a user must uncheck the opt-in fields that were selected during registration and then click "Save".
