All-new four-stroke V6 VMAX SHO and truly portable F6 and F4

They said it couldn’t be done. No way could a four-stroke out run a two-stroke. Even our sponsored pro fishermen, like Dave Mercer, said "They're too slow, too heavy…."

Watch the video below, and find out how he and the pundits were proved wrong …

All-new for 2010, we’re pleased to introduce you to the Yamaha Four-Stroke V6 VMAX SHO. (Available in 250, 225 and 200 horespower versions.) It’s faster, lighter and more fuel efficient than any of its two-stroke competitors. This outboard will revolutionize the world of bass and flats fishing.

Four-stroke engines are well known for broad, smooth power curves and incredible torque, you can expect that and more from the new VMAX SHO. It’s quicker out of the hole, planes quicker than our VMAX Series 2, and achieves higher speed over a measured distance than its predecessor. Here’s a quick rundown of the major features of the VMAX SHO and how they benefit you:

VMAX SHO Features:

  • All-new four-stroke 4.2 litre V6 powerhead
  • Throttle valve is 13 percent larger than previous four-stroke Yamaha V6
  • Water pickups are 81 percent larger than VMAX Series 2
  • Innovative new plasma fused, sleeveless cylinders
  • Lightweight cowl made of advanced composite
  • Sheet molded, lightweight composite bed pan.

What they mean to you:

  • Instant throttle response and massive holeshot power
  • VMAX SHO is 34 pounds lighter than its two-stroke predecessor
  • Engine is stronger and more durable
  • Engine cooling is more efficient
  • Cleaner, quieter and smoother demeanor provides better overall experience
  • Minimal smoke and odour
  • No need to carry oil, frees up additional space for batteries or supplies
  • Less stops for fuel. Burns 12 percent less fuel than VMAX Series 2.

ALL-NEW YAMAHA F6 AND F4

Experience the true meaning of portable with Yamaha’s all-new F6 and F4 outboards. These small but powerful outboards redefine what it means to be portable with lighter weight, built-in carrying handles, and “leak-free” oil retention system.

Weight loss

By switching to a lighter, single-cylinder powerhead design, we have shaved 23 lbs. off the F6! That weight loss alone offers more user-friendly transportation of the outboard from truck-bed or trunk to the transom. Unlike some single-cylinder powerheads, the F6/F4 uses a wet sump, pressurized oil system to facilitate complete lubrication in all operating conditions.

Leak-Free!

Never again will you struggle to store a portable, at least not with the intelligent design of the new F6/F4. Thanks to an oil retention system, the F6/F4 can be stored in one of three horizontal positions. That’s friendly! Another benefit of storing the F6/F4 is the auxiliary primer pump, which primes the fuel system after a long period of downtime.

Other Features

The F6/F4 are also outfitted with 180-degree steering, a counter-balanced, low vibration tiller handle and angled fuel filler opening to reduce the possibility of oil spills. A CDI ignition with Auto Timing Control and an automatic decompression device helps assure easy starting, while a dual fuel filter system with in-tank water trap further proper filtration.
